A poster competition for tobacco control for medical students of KG Somaiya College Mumbai was held as part of the community program of IPA AAP Global Tobacco control program. There were nearly 100 entries . The posters were of very high standard and it was difficult for the judges to choose the winners .In addition to the first three winners, 3 consolation prizes were also given.
The International Pediatric Association (IPA) and the American Academy of Pediatrics has launched a Global Tobacco control program .Dr Swati Bhave the executive Director is the lead coordinator. The launch of this program was done with a community event organised by AACCI in collaboration with KJ Somaiya College Mumbai & Mumbai Branch of IAP. There were more than 200 people in the audience and consisted of Medical and nursing students and students from other subjects from KJ Somaiya colleges. The speakers were Dr Ruth Etzel from USA who is Technical advisor for IPA on Environmental issues and she spoke on effect of second hand tobacco smoke on infants and children. Dr Swati Bhave, Technical advisor for IPA on Adolescent Health spoke on effect of tobacco on teens .There was a very interactive Q/A session. The winners of the poster competition held were declared.

This was the first AACCI workshop for Vocational students .There were 54 participants in the age group of 17-21 yrs. AACCI faculty was Dr Swati Bhave, Surekha Joshi, Sweta V and Geeta Malhotra from Expressions India from New Delhi . The participants were very happy and enjoyed the role play and other activities. A research element was also included by taking survey of their life style, anger, anxiety and general health scales .The gender debate was very enthusiastically participated.
As part of the stress management session there was hands on demonstration of some yoga asanas, pranayama , meditation and relaxation techniques like progressive muscular relaxation and imagery which was done for the first time by many participants .They found this very useful and promised to make it part of their life to handle stress after this workshop A special module to prevent drug abuse was conducted
This was the first AACCI parent workshop held at KC College Mumbai. There were 25 participants who all had teen children. The LSE methodology followed and most parents did role plays for the first time and highly enjoyed the case scenarios and interactive discussion.
The AACI faculty included Drs Swati Bhave,Anuradha Sovani, Jay Shastri and Samir Dalwai and Sarah Khan from Mumbai, Dr Harish Pemde from Delhi and Dr Aruna Jadish from Bangalore . There were lectures and illustrative cases on various issues like communication with your adolescents, healthy life style, psychosocial and physical development, impact of media and internet, dealing with exam stress, prevention of depression and suicide etc.

This was the first AACCI workshop for first year junior college in Mumbai. There were 50 participants in the age group of 17-19 yrs Though the venue was KC college there were many other colleges whose students attended this workshop AACCI faculty was Dr Swati Bhave, Surekha Joshi, Sujata Kanhere from Mumbai Dr Harish Pemde from Delhi and Dr Aruna Jadish from Bangalore. Divya Prasad from expressions India from Delhi was the lead facilitator.
The participants were very happy and enjoyed the role play and other activities. A research element was also included by taking survey of their life style, anger, anxiety. The healthy life style workshop focussed on importance of proper diet, sleep and exercise .The gender debate was very enthusiastically participated and main issues discussed were on different attitudes of girls and boys.

The lectures were on what is metabolic syndrome and the causes of higher incidence of obesity, Diabetes and Hypertension and Heart disease in India and how to prevent these life style disorders by a healthy life style. This applies to children and more so to teenagers.
A Press conference was held on 8th July, 2008. to announce a majoy initiative ebtitled " Healthy Youth Healthy India' Project". The Project first its kind in Indiam will have a possitive impact on the lives of the younger generation in the country. The Project will focus on Prevention of Lifestyle Diseases in Adulthood and Life Skill Education for Adolescents.
