New Age Parenting session was held for residents and doctors of Dept. of Pediatrics and Nursing staff and students. In this session, information about sleep in newborns and infants was given. Faculty was Dr. Swati Bhave, Dr. Sharad Agarkhedkar and Dr.Shailaja Mane, Dr.Geeta Karambelkar gave vote of thanks. About 90 Nursing students, staff and 20 pediatricians participated in this.
Maharashtra state health government has formed a state technical committee: Obesity and Diabetes prevention and control task force which will be designing an action plan and policy for addressing Obesity and NCDs in Maharashtra. The main objective of this task-force will be to develop an action plan for prevention and control of Obesity and NCDs in Maharashtra.
Dr Swati Bhave was invited to participate in the above meeting . Dr Swati Bhave gave a presentation on Importance of beginning NCD awareness and prevention from Infancy to adolescence to prevent Adult NCD's . She also discussed prevention frompreconception stage of not having malnourished adolescent girls and teen pregnancy which will lead to LBW - at high risk for Adult NCD. She also presented AACCI experience over last 8 years of school awareness programs for promotion of healthy life style and prevention of Life style diseases which is the mission of AACCI
The Department of Pediatrics had organized a Contact course for pediatricians registered for the "Certificate Course in Adolescent Pediatrics" at Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Pimpri, Pune from 27th Feb to 5th March 2017.
As a part of this course a workshop for prevention of Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) was conducted for 8th std. students in Dr. D. Y. Patil School in Pimpri. Total 116 students (Boys & Girls) actively participated in this workshop. Dr. Shailaja Mane ,Dr.Dhananjay Shukla conducted this workshop. Workstations of Healthy Food ,Exercise and Reading Food labels were taken alongwith students and faculties (Students of Course in Adolescent Health) which were very much interactive and appreciated by all.

Interactive Question answers session was very much helpful. Principal and Teachers of this school had requested to conduct further such sessions in the school for students and teacher as well.
NCD child has given a grant to the NCD task force of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics for conducting a pilot project for creating awareness for promoting physical activity and healthy eating for prevention of NCD in children and adolescents. The first brain storming session for this project was held in Sir Gangaram Hospital New Delhi on 13th Feb 2017 .This was conducted by Dr Vasudev , Delhi - Project Director and Dr Rekha Harish -, Jammu , Academic Co-ordinator from IAP .The Meeting was organised by Dr Latika Bhalla AACCI Delhi coordinator , The meeting was also attended by Dr Shailaja Mane- AACCI Pune Coordinator , Dr Sunita Manchanda -AACCI core faculty Delhi and Dr Cherukuri Nirmla from Hyderabad and Dr Anju Virmani Delhi .This school project will be conducted in 5 different cities i.e. Delhi, Jammu, Hyderabad, Mumbai/Pune. In this brainstorming session of 4 hours a uniform format for all workshops was finalised The FGD questionnaire designed by Dr Swati Bhave Executive Director AACCI for the project was approved.
On 14th Feb a pilot workshop was conducted in a private school from 8.30 am to 10.45 am. This was organised by Dr Latika Bhalla 65 students from 9th STD were enrolled. The healthy life style questionnaire used by AACCI for last many years was used for the workshop The format was lectures followed by workstations on 3 topics
1) promoting physical activity
2) choosing healthy food.
3) learning to read food labels.
Good cooperation was given by school and the students were very enthusiastic and interactive. The faculty was all the above members and in addition IAP member Dr Arun Photedar from Delhi
A workshop for teachers was organised by PHFI in association with AACCI, HRIDAY, and NCD Child etc. More than 100 teachers and students from various public and private schools in Delhi actively participated in this interactive workshop. Dr. Latika Bhalla, Consultant, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi and Dr Shailaja Mane, AACCI coordinator Pune & Professor of Pediatrics, DY Patil Medical College, and Pimpri Pune had given talks in it. Ms. Kiran Patel, Program Manager, Global Child Health, Department of International Child Health American Academy of Pediatrics had also participated in this session.

Dr Latika Bhalla AACCI Co-ordinator Delhi & Consultant Adolescent Pediatrician Gangaram Hospital Presented a oral paper on Growing Internet Addiction - A threat to our Peers ( Co Author - Dr Swati Y Bhave ) The paper was well appreciated and highlighted the increasing incidence of Internet addiction in young children both from urban and sem-iurban background.
AACCI was represented by Pune Coordinator Dr Shailaja Mane who is Professor of Pediatrics at DY Patil Medical College Pimpri Pune and Dr Latika Bhalla AACCI coordinator Delhi and Consultant Gangaram Hospital Delhi. Other stake holders were PFHI, Hridaya International -NCD child. Plans were discussed for future collaborations.
In 2016, the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) was granted the NCD Child Advocacy in Action program supported by the NCD Child to advance NCD prevention in adolescents in the country by engaging pediatricians' and adolescents in the efforts collaboratively with AACCI and IAP.
The aim of this project is to strengthen the efforts towards obesity reduction and NCD prevention in line with India's adopted NCD targets, by engaging pediatricians in India and enabling schools to adopt health promoting policies and activities.
As the first activity of this project a sensitisation workshop for pediatricians on the topic "Combating NCDs at an early age" was organised on 7th December from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at Sir Gangaram Hospital. The workshop was collaboratively organised by PHFI, HRIDAY, AACCI, Sir Gangaram Hospital, IAP, NCD Task Force and IAP Delhi.
Dr. Latika Bhalla, Consultant-Sir Ganga Ram hospital and AACCI coordinator - Delhi , talked about the expected outcomes of the collaboration.
AACCI had organised awarenes session on understanding the issues on child sexual abuse in collaboration with ARPAN hosted by Dept.of Pediatrics on 3rd December 2016 from 10.30 am to 12:30pm. Mrs Chandrika, from ARPAN had took a very very interactive and informative session on CSA
Over 150 people attended . they consisted of faculty resident doctors from various departments. Psychologists from various institutes in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad area also participated in it.
The session was very very well appreciated by all. After the session it was announced that a 2 day training workshop is planned to be held for health professional in the coming months. Many of the attendes enrolled for the workshop
Maharashtra Government has formed a Task force committee a study group to 'Design and draft the guidelines/policies for prevention and control of Diabetes. Hypertension, Cancer and obesity along with plan of action to tackle the NCDs'
1st meeting of task force was held under chairmanship of Hon'ble Commission of health and MD-NHM.
Dr. Swati Bhave is one of the member of this "Task force committee " and was invited for it. Dr.Shailaja Mane, Pune co-ordinator had represented AACCI and given different valuable inputs.
PRB -The Population Reference Bureau held an event for the release of their publications on Non-communicable Diseases in Asia: Young People are Key to Curbing a Growing Epidemic.
Dr. Swati Bhave was invited to deliver a talk "Starting NCD Interventions Early: A Way Forward". This lecture was delivered by Dr.Shailaja Mane on behalf of Dr. Swati Bhave. This lecture also included the work AACCI has been doing in promoting the concept of Healthy life style for prevention of Life style diseases in schools .This was appreciated by many in the audience. Many organizations showed interest to work jointly with AACCI.

A four hour interactive workshop was held from 9to 1 pm for adults to learn above understand and coping with emotions. The various emotions were explained giving the biological and psychological aspects with help of very colorful images and slides. Generation of various emotions was illustrated by role plays by the faculty. An Acitivity sheet was given to help them analyze a recent emotional event. Hands on practice was given on various relaxation techniques after showing illustrative videos .The workshop got a very good feedback.

A small group workshop for Three and half hours was held at AACCI center for children 8 -14 years. In the first part of the session the children were taught all about emotions - how they are generated, how to control them etc. Through drawings and writings they learn to express various emotions . They were taught meditations and techniques of relaxation when they were upset or anxious. In the second part of the session we focused on the emotion of anger - how and why it is caused and how it can be harmful. The children were taught various methods to calm down and also express anger constructively They were given activity sheet for taking home to re-enforce what was taught in the workshop .prizes were given for best drawings and best acting.

AACCI has started a project for Life skills for specially challenged children .Under this AACCI has set up collaboration with a Down's syndrome Parent support group in Pune. Regular programs will be now held for parents on subjects of their choice.
The co-coordinators from the DS group are Chandana Chitale and Jayanti Gadgil
The first program was held on 30th April .The topics included : Genetic counseling , medical problems in DS, special challenges in parenting, coping with the emotions , diet in DS and physical growth and development .

AACCI and HRIDAY work on doing programs in schools. HRIDAY has done pioneering work on Tobacco Prevention. AACCI conducts programs on prevention on life style diseases using the LSE -Life Skill Education Approach.
In the workshop and Over view of NCD issues related to children and young people & Experience of AACCI school based awareness programs was delivered by Dr Swati Y Bhave AACCI. Radhika Srivastava from HRIDAY spoke on the Public health policies related to NCD’s in this age group.
This was followed by an interactive participatory session using role plays and group discussions from AACCI LSE module for Obesity prevention. The faculty was Dr Swati Y Bhave, Dr Sangeeta Yadav AACCI core faculty, New Delhi Dr Shailaja Mane AACCI core faculty, Pune .They conducted a faculty role play to show various ways of saying no to peer pressure.
This was followed by group discussion on how to plan a healthy menu for a school party and case scenario on how to encourage physical activity .The co faculty were from AACCI - Delhi- Dr Harish Pemde, Dr Anjali Saxena, Dr Latika Bhalla, Dr Sunita Manchanda.

Was conducted for Parents of Teens There were 20 parents which included including doctors, teachers and professors. They actively participated in this full day workshop. The participants very actively participated in the group discussions and role plays . More such workshops are planned as this program was very much appreciated
