The Department of Pediatrics had organized a Contact course for pediatricians registered for the "Certificate Course in Adolescent Pediatrics" at Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Pimpri, Pune from 27th Feb to 5th March 2017.
As a part of this course a workshop for prevention of Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) was conducted for 8th std. students in Dr. D. Y. Patil School in Pimpri. Total 116 students (Boys & Girls) actively participated in this workshop. Dr. Shailaja Mane ,Dr.Dhananjay Shukla conducted this workshop. Workstations of Healthy Food ,Exercise and Reading Food labels were taken alongwith students and faculties (Students of Course in Adolescent Health) which were very much interactive and appreciated by all.
On 14th Feb a pilot workshop was conducted in a private school from 8.30 am to 10.45 am. This was organised by Dr Latika Bhalla 65 students from 9th STD were enrolled. The healthy life style questionnaire used by AACCI for last many years was used for the workshop The format was lectures followed by workstations on 3 topics
1) promoting physical activity
2) choosing healthy food.
3) learning to read food labels.
Good cooperation was given by school and the students were very enthusiastic and interactive. The faculty was all the above members and in addition IAP member Dr Arun Photedar from Delhi
The Department of Pediatrics had organized a Contact course for pediatricians registered for the "Certificate Course in Adolescent Pediatrics" at Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Pimpri, Pune from 27th Feb to 5th March 2017.
As a part of this course a life skill education workshop was conducted for 8th std. students in Vidya Niketan School in Pimpri, Total 56 students (Boys & Girls) actively participated in this workshop. Dr. Swati Bhave & Dr. Shailaja Mane conducted this workshop. Role plays of students and faculties (Students of Course in Adolescent Health) were highly effective and appreciated by all. Interactive Question answers session was very much helpful. Principal and Teachers of this school had requested to conduct further such sessions in the school for students and teacher as well.

A small group workshop for Three and half hours was held at AACCI center for children 8 -14 years. In the first part of the session the children were taught all about emotions - how they are generated, how to control them etc. Through drawings and writings they learn to express various emotions . They were taught meditations and techniques of relaxation when they were upset or anxious. In the second part of the session we focused on the emotion of anger - how and why it is caused and how it can be harmful. The children were taught various methods to calm down and also express anger constructively They were given activity sheet for taking home to re-enforce what was taught in the workshop .prizes were given for best drawings and best acting.

30 Boys of std IX were given an interactive lecture on all issues of puberty and growing up issues including media addiction and substance abuse etc. The children asked many varied questions. Faculty Dr Swati Y Bhave, Dr Swati Joshi, Dr Snehal Apte.
60 Boys of Std IX were given an interactive lecture on all issues of growing up including medial addiction and substance abuse. They were very interactive during the sessions and in their queries. Faculty Dr Swati Y Bhave, Dr Swati Joshi, Dr Snehal Apte. Principal Ms Leena Talathi was present during the session.
100 girls from VIII and IX std were given an interactive session. Various issues of puberty were discussed including menstruation and menstrual hygiene. There were lot of questions and girls were quite interactive. The principal was present during the session. Faculty was Dr Swati Y Bhave, Dr Swati Joshi, and Dr Snehal Apte.
Dr Swati Bhave gave a one hour lecture to 1st year Nursing college students .The topics discussed were issues of adolescent and youth and the problems faced due to relocation for higher studies and living away from parents in hostels .The additional faculty was Tanvi Sarpotdar. A lot of interaction took place and the feed back was excellent.
The afternoon three hour session was for adolescents. This was held in the DNB library hall of Jehangir Hospital The topic was “How to get the best out of yourself in academics and extracurricular activities “The Faculty was Dr Swati Y Bhave, Executive director AACCI, Dr Savita Gaikwad Psychiatrist. The format was group discussions and interactive power-point lectures .The children actively participated in the group discussions and presentation. The feedback was that they enjoyed and learnt a lot from this session
The First one hour session was for parents. This was held in the Training hall of Jehangir Hospital .The topic was “Electronic gadgets and Teens- cyber-safety -Protecting your teens from Dangers of Internet. This was part of the Parenting program launched by the Jehangir Hospital adolescent Clinic Parent and Teen program in Aug
The Faculty was Dr Swati Y Bhave Executive director AACCI, Dr Savita Gaikwad Psychiatrist and Dr Swati Tikekar Family Physician. The parents were made aware about the various uses of internet and social media. They were explained the do’s and don’ts while using internet, password security , dangers of social media use , cyber bullying and many other aspects .The parents very much enjoyed the session and found it very informative and useful.
A full day workshop was held for learning how to handle exam stress for both parents and teens . Separate sessions were first taken a combined session for both sets The faculty included Dr Swati Bhave ED AACCI, Dr Naina Kinikar Professor of Pediatrics B.J Medical College Pune and Dr Shailaja Mane Associate Professor of Pediatrics DY Patil Medical College Pune .Interactive lectures and group discussions were taken
On world health day at Modern school there were more than 300 students. Dr Swati Bhave spoke on "adolescent issues that bother you and the solutions" and cyber safety
A poster competition for tobacco control for medical students of KG Somaiya College Mumbai was held as part of the community program of IPA AAP Global Tobacco control program. There were nearly 100 entries . The posters were of very high standard and it was difficult for the judges to choose the winners .In addition to the first three winners, 3 consolation prizes were also given.
The International Pediatric Association (IPA) and the American Academy of Pediatrics has launched a Global Tobacco control program .Dr Swati Bhave the executive Director is the lead coordinator. The launch of this program was done with a community event organised by AACCI in collaboration with KJ Somaiya College Mumbai & Mumbai Branch of IAP. There were more than 200 people in the audience and consisted of Medical and nursing students and students from other subjects from KJ Somaiya colleges. The speakers were Dr Ruth Etzel from USA who is Technical advisor for IPA on Environmental issues and she spoke on effect of second hand tobacco smoke on infants and children. Dr Swati Bhave, Technical advisor for IPA on Adolescent Health spoke on effect of tobacco on teens .There was a very interactive Q/A session. The winners of the poster competition held were declared.
