Mrs. Seema Bali

My name is Seema Bali and I reside in New Delhi, India. I am an educationist by profession and teach biology to High school students. The strength of our school is almost 2500 from the age group of 6 to 18 plus.

My father was a refugee who migrated to India from Pakistan. He always followed a minimalistic approach towards life (due to paucity of resources) which much later I realized was what we today call as being a sustainable lifestyle. He was instrumental in instilling the values around sustainability in my formative years, without spelling it out, which became the way of my life.

Environmental degradation has always bothered me. I was always vocal about my concern for environment from as early as my school days. I have always worked around green projects (involving teachers, students and parents) for school in my 28 years of teaching experience. It has always been rewarding and we have been awarded at various platforms- Gold Accreditation by Indian Green Building Council being the most coveted and motivational. I have extensively worked to integrate various SDGs though my global contribution around SDG 3 and SDG 13. I am an in-country trainer, Advocate and Champion for Healthy India Alliance (extensively trained at Geneva, along with representatives from other countries by the Non-Communicable Diseases Alliance, Geneva for Our views Our voices initiative). Being a Climate Leader gave me all the impetus to integrate the causes of ecological impairment on the health of human beings.

I have been successful in transcending school boundaries along with students, teachers and parents in taking our projects to the community and collaborate with other schools (national and international) through talks, walkathons, Cyclothon, blogs, street plays, Model United Nations, observing special days, video conferencing etc. to create awareness and bring about tangible results. The pandemic did not dampen my spirits and as a consultant with the Climate Reality Project, I nurture my passion of being a green crusader and share my success stories with the teaching fraternity in various schools thus mobilizing green initiatives in various schools for a hopeful and healthy ecosphere.
