PROF. KATY GANDEVIA
Prof. Katy Gandevia, B.A. (Hons.) Psychology (1969), University of Mumbai, M.A. Medical and Psychiatric Social Work (1971) and Ph. D Social Work (2009), Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai,is an academician and field worker.
Dr. Gandevia's career spans 4 decades in the field of Mental Health in the areas of Prevention of Mental Illness, Promotion of Mental Health and Rehabilitation of the Mentally Ill. She is the founder member of 2 Day Care Centres for people recovering from mental illness.After working as a Psychiatric worker in a voluntary organization for 13 years she joined TISS in 1984.
Currently Dr. Gandevia is a Professor in the School of Social work and is attached to the Centre for Health and Mental Helth. She is involved in curriculam building, teaching, training, research and field action in Mental Health Social Work. She is serving as a Board Member on voluntary organizations in India and abroad. She has to her credit articles in Journals and Books and has 2 edited volumes to her credit. Her Research work spans accross the areas of health, mental health, substance abuse and disaster management. Dr. Gandevia has participated in a Fulbright Exchange Programme in the United States for 13 month and has been to the Kathlic University of Leuven, Belgium on the Euresmus Mundus Scholarship for 2 months. Her interests include reading, travelling and meeting people.
