AACCI Project for prevention of violence and aggression in children and Youth in India

The recent reports of escalating aggression and violence in children and youth today both in and out of schools today made us realize that it is important for doing preventive interventions in schools, colleges and out of school children and youth .AACCI relished that mammoth take was not possible by one organization alone and hence decide to spear head a movement invoking other stake holders, association ad and NGOS in this project
It was important to come out with some concrete guidelines and action plan .A national
In view of the escalating violence in many cities of India which involves children
and youth in various aspects, AACCI decide to spearhead a project that will get
together all stake holders to plan practical interventions which are doable at
various levels. This was the brain child of Dr Swati Y Bhave Executive Director
This meeting was Co-hosted by ISHP -Indian Society of Healthcare Professionals represented by Dr Anuradha Khairnar from Delhi.
In the morning Presentations on the subject were made by renowned
psychiatrists: Dr Shekhar Seshadri from NIMHANS, Bangalore, Nimesh Desai
IHABS, New Delhi and Dr Jitendra Nagpal, Expressions India New Delhi
The participants were experts in psychology, doctors from various specialties-
pediatricians, adolescent specialists, family physicians, principals, teachers,
counselors, legal experts, media experts, social scientists, educationist and
parents and representatives from various NGOS.

A unique feature of this meet was that there was participation from school students Std VI-XII  from two schools – Basra International School , Dwarka and Venkateshwar International School Dwarka who took active part in the deliberations .There was representation from college students in Delhi also
Group discussions were held under various themes: interventions at parental,
school, college, community levels, legal aspects, special situations like rural, tribal
and urban slums and specially challenged children.
The groups were led by will be led by experts: Dr Jai Shastri
Psychiatrist and Dr Anuradha Sovani from Mumbai University, Prof Katy Gandevia from TISS, Dr Radhakrishnan from RGNIYD, Dr UNB Rao from UVCT Trust, Seema Khanna Media expert  ASWHD , Dr Sangeeta Yadav Prof of Pediatrics from MAMC New Delhi, Padmashree Pukhraj Bafna from Chhattisgarh, Adolescent experts like Drs Ashok Gupta from Jaipur, Paula Goel from Mumbai, Anjali Saxena Paediatrician Max hospital and Dr TS Jain medical Director Pusphpanjali Cross lay Hospital New Delhi, Dr Swati Joshi Psychiatrist from Pune and Dr Arena Jadish Adolescent expert from Bangalore in addition to the speakers  Dr Shekhar Seshadri Nimesh Desai and Dr Jitendra Nagpal, The legal aspects were contributed by Principal Magistrate Juvenile Justice court Geetanjali Goel  



AACCI has developed 3 training modules for master trainers to conduct programs for creating awareness and capacity building of teachers, students and children to prevent and empower with ability to prevent and cope up with violence. If subjected to it this module have lectures, interactive sessions that include group discussions and case scenarios

A work shop was held for Orientation of these modules on 5th Aug at India International center new Delhi
AACCI faculty lead by Dr Swati Y Bhave explained the way to use these modules in the orientation program... There were over 50 participants who included doctors –pediatricians, adol experts, principals, teachers, counselors, educationists from many parts of the country.

The pilot testing of the students module was done at Blue Bell School Gurgaon on 11th July 2012 on 40 children from VIII- X std and also field tested on nearly 700 students from std I-X at Activity School Mumbai on 20th and 21st July 2012 .The principal also organized a day long workshop for 50 parents and 25 teachers where the parent and teacher modules were also field tested.

This program has been highly appreciated by everyone and AACCI faculty has received many invitations to conduct this training program in their schools to train their staff so that they can carry forward this program in their school for many years to come
We are now planning to hold such training programs in various schools all over the countery
